Community service and traineeships
The Bruno Manser Fund has two posts to offer to young persons doing community service or as trainees, one in documentation and the other in its mapping project. A precondition for applying for either of the posts is strong identification with the aims of the Bruno Manser Fund. Further particulars are to be found in the individual descriptions of the posts.
Community service or traineeship in the marketing and campaining section
The work in the marketing and campaigning section consists in doing research into environmental issues and managing a press review on environmental and human-rights matters in Malaysia, most of which is in English. The job also involves tasks in social media, fundraising and marketing as well as administrative tasks.
The duration is in general 6 months, and the post would best suit students. Preference will be given to candidates studying in the fields of environmental science, social science or the humanities but with an interest in environmental matters.
Community service or traineeship in the projects section
Mapping the Penan's territories is one of the Bruno Manser Fund's core projects. For this, it needs assistance in handling the geographic information systems (ArcGis 10) – i.e. in digitising the geographic data and generating the maps. The person occupying this post may also be expected to perform complementary administrative duties and/or research and/or to help with writing reports.
The preconditions for applying for the work in this area are a bachelor’s degree (or likely completion of study in the near future), in-depth knowledge of the geographic information systems and the handling of geographic data in addition to the ability to work autonomously in executing the entrusted tasks. The minimum duration for this assignment is four months.
